So, as you lovely readers know, I was trying to get an apartment with one of my best friends Kenzie. Well, when she came up for the visit this past Monday and Tuesday we went and look at two places. One we liked and one we didn't like so much.
In not the best judgement, we decided to only apply to the one place. So you can imagine we've been super anzious and nervous seeing as if we didn't get this place, we would of had to apply to the other place we didn't really like.
Anywhoo... WE GOT IT!
I am so beyond excited and nervous at the same time. This is actually the most adult thing I've had to do thus far not counting my decision to move away for college. (I hope that doesn't sound childish).
Here are some pictures from the website so you can see how nice it is!
And the closests are huge! I think this will make the perfect home for my senior year :)

DON"T FORGET!
The second installment of Furbaby Friday is tomorrow with it's first guest post, Melissa from Scribble n Dash. She wasn't scheduled until next week but due to some personal reasons for the blogger who was going to do it, she graciously stepped up to have her post done for tomorrow!
Also, don't forget that "Tell 'Em Tuesday" will be starting this upcoming Tuesday. Grab the button from my sidebar! Can't wait to see what you all have to say!
Time for another Randonm Thursday with Linny, Kailyn, and Natalie. This week's prompt is:
I'll admit, this is a harder prompt for me because I'm not really into any beauty products. I have things I use and such but with a college student's budget, I shop the sales mostly. But I do have a few things I like and use so here it goes.
Hair:
So, when I splurge on beauty products, it's usually for my hair since I have long hair that I'm still trying to make grow. I really love Garnia Fructis. It's affordable and it does amazing things to my hair.
I was having a problem with my hair breaking as it got longer. So I got some of this stuff and it really has made an improvement.
Nails:
Since I have that God awful habit of biting my nails, I don't usually pay too much attention to my nails. But I like to paint them and when I do I use this:
I love this nail polish brand. I think I almost own every color.
Skin:
I love my skin to be soft and I have particular trouble keeping my feet smooth because I like flip flops and being barefoot too much during the summer but this stuff works pretty great.
Body:
And last but not least, I am like ocd about smelling good. Here is my favorite scent:
I do wear make-up but like I said, I shop the sales. So if you do have anything awesome to share with me, leave it in the comments!
Sorry I don't have any awesome beauty finds for you all!
Now it's your turn, so link up for Random Thursday awesomeness!
I hope you all are having a lovely Wednesday. It's time for another installment of 7 questions so head on over to Gentri Lee's blog to join in on this short and sweet link-up!
1. The Olympics are awesome! What's your favorite Summer Olympic event to watch? Okay, so I'll admit. I'm not the biggest fan of the Olympics. Typically I just want them over with so my televsion programs can go back to normal. BUT, I have been watching them here and there and I will make one confession.... I am starting to find them interesting. I love Swimming and the Girls' Gymnastics.
2. If you could compete in an Olympic event (either season), which would it be? Hmmm.... I would love to be able to do gymnastics. Some of the flips they do are just bad ass.
3. Would you rather be tickled to death or poked (by finger) constantly for the rest of your life? I agree with Gentri Lee. If I'm tickled to death, then at least I'll die laughing.
4. Do you keep your nails long or short? Square or round? Confession #2... I bite my nails. (I wonder if they have rehab for that...) So my nails are round [ish] and short [ish-because chewed down nubs are short right?].
5. Do you think you're funny? Totally. I'm like the next Tina Fey... I can also shoot rainbow lasers out of my ears.
6. When you have something you're looking forward to SO much, but it's still a ways off, what do you do to keep yourself distracted? This is a hard one. I do countdowns and stuff like that. And I maninly just keep busy and the time passes. (Ya hear that graduation?)
7. You've just won an Olympic Gold Medal! What are you going to do next?!?! I'm lame... pay off my student loans haha
*******
Okay, so now time for some bloggy type things.
As you may have noticed or are now noticing, my blog has changed some more. I've been trying to experiment with different things and keep it as clean and organized looking as possible. Coming up in the near future I will be doing my first guest post, so I want my blog in tip top shape. Since I'm new to this, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I also want to announce a new link-up that I will be co-hosting with my awesome friend and fellow blogger, Ashley. The link-up will be called "Tell 'Em Tuesday."
People love to rant. So why not do it here? This link up is for anyone who has something to say! Wanna give something in your life [whether that be an ex or the bird who wakes you up too soon in the morning] a piece of your mind? Here's where ya do it! I will be making a button for it so please be on the look out so you can pass it on. Also, help spread the word to your followers. The more, the merrier (and more interesting!).
Also, don't forget "Furbaby Friday" is happening every friday so if you know a fellow blogger who loves to talk about their furry loved ones, send them my way!
All right folks, that's all I've got. I hope you all are having a beautiful hump day!
I hope you all had fantastically awesome weekends. As many of you know, this past weekend was my 22nd birthday.
It started on Saturday and I went and bought myself a bunch of books. I got 8 books (7 brand spankin' new hardbacks and a paperback) for 8 dollars! Can you say SCORE?! A lot of the ones were ones that I've read but just wanted on my shelf. Is that weird? My mom gets on me about it constantly (Why get it if you've already read it, she says)
I also went and bought a cute new outfit for my birthday dinner on Sunday.
Then on Sunday I spent the morning cleaning and getting the apartment ready for Kenzie's visit. Then we all got together at TGI Friday's. My friends Malarie, Christine, Molly, and Mary were all able to come. Christine bought me this really cute candle holder set (of course I forgot to take a picture to post). We ate dinner and had some drinks. I planned on the night being longer but since everyone wanted to be fresh for Monday it got cut kinda short. I was little dissappointed, since I didn't expect people to leave after only an hour and a half at 8:30 in the evening. But I was grateful they at least showed up.
Here's my drink (It was free!)
And here's a pic of me ( which is my new profile pic because I liked it lol)
On Saturday, my area is holding a huge book sale where the public libraries get together and donate books, cds, and dvds and all of the money goes to bettering the libraries in the city. As someone who works in a library, you know it is an obligation to participate (and buy a whole ton of books because I can).
I'm also going to go shopping for a new top (or maybe a dress) to wear for my birthday on Sunday. I HATE clothes shopping with a passion. If I could hire someone to do it for me you better believe I'd do it within seconds. I'd rather just look at clothes online and appreciate them, but trying them on and buying them? Nope, not my cup of tea.
On Sunday, I will be turning 22! I don't know how I feel about it yet. Turning 21 was exciting and all, but 22 makes me feel more like an adult. 21 is passed and I'm legal and that makes every age after boring. (That's a bit of an exageration, but still). I decided to do something simple and just go out for dinner and drinks with some friends. I'm excited to have every one together.I'll have pictures to post on Monday!
Then, on Monday & Tuesday, one of my best friends, Kenzie is coming into town for apartment hunting and more birthday fun. I haven't seen her since early January because she studied abroad for the fall semester so I'm super excited to see her again. It's definitely going to be a fun few days.
Now that it's August, senior year is fast approaching and I'm staritng to get a little anxious. I still have so much to do by the 22nd. And once it starts, it's going to fly by. That's a scary thought. I'm ready to be out of school and out of this city, but I'm not ready to be split from my friends without knowing when I'll see them again. And don't even get me started on the real world. All I know is I'm just going to take every moment in each day and enjoy the ride.
Hey fellow bloggers! Welcome to the first installment of Furbaby Friday. I'm your host Melissa =]
All right, enough with the announcer voice.
I am very excited to be hosting this. As a pet owner myself, I know how much us furbaby mommas (& poppas) love our pets which in turn translates to the awesomeness of bragging rights! (Because you know each us believe that our fuzzy friend is the best)
So what exactly is Furbaby Friday, you may ask (hopefully in your head and not out loud or people may stare)? Well, every Friday I will have a guest blogger post about their furbabies. Sounds easy and equally cute enough, right? Each blogger will introduce themselves and their pets and talk about whatever they want in order to induce a cuteness overload coma. Remember, if you want to participate, just email me at lifeandtimesofmellynel.gmail.com.
Now, let's get on with it!
I am the proud furbaby momma to a Beagle Rat Terrier Mix named Prudence. She is named after the Beatles song "Dear Prudence." If you haven't heard the song, here ya go:
I chose to name her this because I wanted to give her a name that wasn't one a dog is normally named and I wanted it to be a human name. The lyrics, "Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?" is what made my decision.
Pru was a Valentine's Day/First Year Anniversary gift from an old boyfriend. He and my best friend Haleigh adopted her from the Humane Society and we went and picked her up two days later. She was only 2 months when we got her.
I'll tell ya, she was the shyest thing in the world when we first brought her home. I was worried the humane society's classification of her as "very social" was wrong. But alas by the end of the night she was pouncing around at my feet and chewing on my fingers like rubber bones.
Now dogs have always been my favorite animal but I never had one growing up (the consequence of growing up in an apartment). So when I got Pru, you can imagine the excitement. I was like that little kid waking up to a puppy on Christmas morning.
Growing up, a dog is all I ever wanted and now that I have one, my life has become so much fuller. I honestly can't imagine my life without her. It's crazy to me how a human and an animal can create a bond like that. One of the magic wonders of nature, I guess.
She is the goofiest dog ever sometimes or well most of the time. When I come in the door from work or school and let her out of her crate, she runs a little lap around me and then stands on her hind legs with her paws up in the air (It reminds me of a toddler yelling "pick me up!"). When she's being really playful, she'll give me the goofiest face ever and it cracks me up every time.
While I was occupied watching a movie, she was busy getting her head stuck in the empty breadstick bag.
When I'm doing homework (which takes up like every morsel of my being during the school year) she lays by me and watches me. Once I'm finished though, she is up and about wanting to play.
For christmas, my best friend got me a picture frame that says "Pets Leave Paw Prints on Our Hearts" and I believe that saying is more than true. They leave paw prints on every aspect of your life. My home wouldn't be home without my Prudence.
Now it's your turn! If you would like to participate in Furbaby Friday, shoot me an e-mail!
It's time for another installment of Random Thursday with Linny, Kailyn, and Natalie ! This week's prompt is: Who is your celebrity girl crush?
First and foremost, I LOVE/ADORE/WOULD TOTALLY MARRYSophia Bush. I think if I had to only pick one girl crush, it would be her.
She is not only absolutely stunning and a great actress. But she sincerely loves the world and people. She does so much philanthropic work, it's crazy. Not only that but she advocates being intelligent over sexy and
loving one's body no matter what. Here are a few quotes from her just to reiterate my point:
"I think the sexiest thing on anybody is intelligence. I respect somebody who has a brain and wants to use it more than a pretty face and status"
"Life is too short, and I'm Italian. I'd much rather eat pasta and drink wine than be a size 0."
My mom says out of any celebrities, she thinks I look like Sophia Bush, which is a great compliment since she is GORGEOUS. I kinda see it, but she is so tiny so I think if I lost like a gazillion pounds I would see it more.
She has to be one of the sweetest people in hollywood. She is so beyond modest and humble. I love her personality and look up to her in that sense. Not to mention she's also gorgeous. Learn more about her here.
I wanted a quick link up to participate in today so I'm linking up with Gentri Lee!
First, my funny photo. I'm more known for sticking my tounge out when I'm taking a silly picture.
1. It's the first day of August- Are you savoring the Summer or ready to jump into Fall? I love summer because it gives me some downtime from school and all the awesomeness that happens during it (like my birthday) BUT Fall is my absolute favorite ever.
2. You need a quick and healthy meal, what do you make? I love cereal so most likely a bowl of whole grain cereal like honey bunches of oats or raisin bran with banana and strawberries.
3. You're at the mall, how do you shop? I go store to store with my favorites in mind and stop in other stores that catch my eye along the way.
4. Would you rather buy a new house or renovate an old one? Hmm... I'm not sure. I love old houses but renovating one could take A LOT of money. I don't really like the newer houses. How about, I'd buy an old house that the previous owner FULLY renovated haha
5. Long hair or short hair? I've always kept my hair long. THe shortest I've ever cut it is to my shoulders. Right now I'm in the midst of growing it out as long as I want until I get bored of it lol
6. Who is your oldest (not by age) friend?
I would have to say my friend Shannon. We don't talk every day but we do keep in touch. I've known her since th first day of 7th grade.
Aren't we cute?
7. What is your favorite blog- currently? This is a hard one because I like so many. I'm gonna go with Life As Lucy because Ash is one of my closest friends and I have been reading her blog since she started it. Plus she got me started in blogging =]
All right folks, it's time for another installment of 10 on Tuesday so link up at Linny's Vault!
1. My niece is turning 5 on Thursday! That is not cool. Yesterday she was just a year.
From her first birthday
Where does the time go?
2. My hair is finally starting to grow out. I decided 2 years ago that I wanted to grow it out long. But longer hair means I need to pay more attention to it. To all you long haired peeps out there, what hair products do you like?
3. Sophia Bush is coming back to television! Her new show "Partners" will be airing on CBS starting in September. I'm kinda really excited, just sayin'
4. I switched my blog from a 2 column to a 3 column. I don't know how I like it yet but we'll see if it grows on me.
5. So I'm not one who get into the Olympics. My sports watching extends as far as baseball and maybe some football games. But I'll admit, after some trouble sleeping and nothing else being on tv, I've gotten a teensy bit interested. Like when Jordyn Wieber didn't make the finals, how heartbreaking was that?
And how awesome is Missy Franklin? Pretty friggin cool for a 17 year old.
6. Although I am no where near close to having a baby [or even planning to have one], I have been infected with baby fever. I blame my friends with their super adorable kids and big ol' preggo bellies. Yep, it's all their fault I'm daydreaming about baby names and awwing over kids that come into the library (where I work) with their parents.
7. I wish the writing bug would bite me (maybe it would cure the baby fever?) I have so many ideas but I have so much difficulty making myself sit down and write. There's always this thing happening and that thing that needs to be done.
8. For my birthday, I'm going to bring cupcakes into work... pina colada cupcakes!
9. As the summer dwindles down, I think it's going to be harder and harder to let go of the cat I'm fostering.
How cute is he??
10. I'm really excited for the guest post segment I am starting. It is called Furbaby Friday and every Friday, guest bloggers will post about their furry loved ones. Remember if you want to participate, email me at lifeandtimesofmellynel@gmail.com!
